| Glyndebourne's L'Elisir D'Amore & the Heritage of Sussex |
Your 3 day tour includes reserved seats for the Glyndebourne performance of Donizetti’s ‘L’Elisir d’Amore’. Light, lyrical and bursting with energy, ‘L’Elisir d’Amore’ catches the heady feelings of first love. Tumbling from melody to melody, this is opera with a song on its lips and a spring in its step – a light hearted look at smalltown life and the magic that happens when you start believing in yourself. Nemorino loves Adina, but why would she – wealthy, clever, beautiful – ever look at a boy like him? Enter Dr Dulcamara, whose lotions and potions promise instant, and magical, results. Day 1 We meet our private executive coach at our designated pick-up points. En route to our hotel we spend some time at leisure for lunch in Lewes. This afternoon we visit Michelham Priory for a guided tour. Founded as an Augustinian priory in 1229, at the dissolution of the monasteries the church was demolished and transformed into a Tudor gentleman's residence and later a farmhouse. The building was restored in the early part of the 20th century. Set on a moated island, entrance to the property is gained through the imposing 14th century gatehouse. We continue to the 4* Hydro Hotel at Eastbourne for a two night stay. A choice 3 course dinner without drinks is included in our hotel this evening. Day 2 This morning we spend some time at leisure in Eastbourne. On an individual basis you may choose to visit the Towner Art Gallery. Collecting and exhibiting contemporary art for nearly 100 years, the gallery presents historic, modern and contemporary art through temporary and collection based exhibitions. This afternoon we continue to Glyndebourne where we take our Stalls or Circle seats for the 4pm performance of Donizetti’s ‘L’Elisir d’Amore’. After the performance, we enjoy an included set 3 course dinner without drinks at one of the excellent restaurants in the opera complex. Day 3 After checking out of our hotel we visit Charleston House, the home of the artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (sister of Virginia Woolf) that became the country meeting place for the group of writers, artists and intellectuals known as the Bloomsbury Group. Taking carefully selected comfort stops en route, we return back to our original pick-up points. Further information is available from Ann - 01749 850307. |
